The 11th Criminal Justice Department of the Daegu District Court (Chief Judge Lee Seong-wook) announced on the 9th that a 55-year-old Shincheonji church member was sentenced to six months in prison and two years probation on charges of falsely accusing a protester that used to denounce Shincheonji as a cult.
At 10:50 a.m. on September 8 last year, A had a fight with B, who was participating in a rally denouncing Shincheonji in front of the Sincheonji Church in Daemyung-dong, Nam-gu, Daegu. She then told the police officer who was sent on the scene that "B stepped on her foot and pushed her over," and even in the subsequent police investigation A said, "B pushed me and injured me. I want punishment."
However, the court confirmed that there was no physical contact between them.
"The crime is serious because it is not only a misuse of the national criminal justice system, but also puts others at risk of receiving unfair criminal punishment," the court said. "The fact that no criminal action was taken against B, and the fact that she had no criminal records other than a single fine were taken into consideration."
