About 70 believers gathered in front of the detention center were panicked when news of the arrest of Lee Man-hee (89), the Chairman the Sinchonji Jesus Church, was reported.
Some believers were nervous and stamping their feet.
"It's the moment when the heart collapses," member A said. "It's ridiculous to arrest an elderly person over 90."
The congregation gathered in groups in front of the detention center and took out their cell phones to search for news.
"They said at it is my father’s fault, so tell them to arrest all 300,000 children," Member B said. "They put a ridiculous charge on him that he interfered with the infectious disease and asked him what he was doing."
Another believer, C, sighed loudly, saying, "They’re trying to find fault with us, but what's wrong with donating blood, serving and helping to promote our country's name worldwide?"
They all left about 15 minutes after hearing the news.
Some members even got into the vehicle with a sad expression and quick steps.
An official from Sincheonji said, "We will organize our position on the arrest decision by tomorrow. We will let you know in detail through press conferences."
Meanwhile, Lee Myung-chul, a senior judge in charge of warrants at the Suwon District Court, issued an arrest warrant for Lee at 1:20 a.m.
The court judged that although there was some room for dispute over the crime, some of the charges were cleared.
