Lee Man-hee, Chairman of Shincheonji, was arrested early morning on Aug. 1.

Lee Myung-chul, a judge in charge of warrants at the Suwon District Court, issued an arrest warrant for Chairman Lee Man-hee who is accused of obstructing the government's Corona 19 quarantine activities and embezzling billions of won in church funds, on charges of violating the Act on the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes.

Lee is accused of reducing, omitting, or falsely reporting the list of believers, assembly facilities, etc. to quarantine authorities in February, when the Corona was rapidly spreading. He is also suspected of embezzling some 5.6 billion won in church funds during the construction of Peace Palace of Shincheonji in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province.

The court explained the reason for issuing the warrant, saying, "Some charges have been cleared for the crime, and given the circumstances of systematically destroying evidence during the investigation, it is difficult to rule out concerns over further destruction of evidence in light of Lee's status in religious organizations."

"Although he has a chronic disease at an advanced age, it doesn't seem to be a very difficult life in prison," he added.
