Lee Man-hee, the chairman of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Shincheonji), who was arrested on charges of obstructing the government's Corona 19 preventive activities, asked the court to re-examine the arrest warrant, but his request was rejected.

Today (13th) the 11th criminal division of the Suwon District Court held a review on the suitability of Chairman Lee's arrest and rejected Lee's request. Chairman Lee was arrested on charges of violating the Act on the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes.

The court explained the reason for the rejection, saying, "Based on the results of the questioning and what appeares in the documents, considering the justification of the crime, the progress of the investigation, and the health condition, the request appeares unjustified; it was confirmed that the issuance of the arrest warrant was appropriate and the necessity of the arrest was recognized."

Lee's pleader claimed the unfairness of Lee's arrest and gathered various materials for the arrest review, which took place from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today.

On the 1st, Chairman Lee was arrested on charges of colluding with Sincheonji executives to adulterate the list of believers and meeting venues reported to the preventive authorities in February, when the Corona 19 was spreading around Sincheonji.

He is also suspected of embezzling 5.6 billion won, including 5 billion won in church funds, in the process of building the Peace Palace, a training center of Sincheonji, and holding religious events at public facilities from 2015 to last year without the approval of local governments.

The prosecution will indict the chairman as soon as the investigation will be completed.
