Seoul revokes the HWPL corporation authorization Kyunghyang Shinmun

The Seoul Metropolitan Government said that the Authorization to Establish a Corporation of the organization related to Schincheonji, Heavenly Culture and World Peace, Restoration of Light(HWPL), will be canceled starting from April the 24th.
Seoul's decision is in accordance with the Article 38 of the Civil Law, "Cancellation of the Authorization to Establish a Corporation."
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, HWPL has not followed the procedures related to the articles of association and licence, such as not holding regular general meetings or auditing accounts since its establishment. In addition, the Seoul Metropolitan Government approved of the corporation projects aiming to "cultural exchanges and support for developing countries," but the HWPL carried out projects having different purposes, including joint religious projects with the Shincheonji Church under the pretext of "carrying out peace projects through the integration of religious groups."
In addition, the Seoul Metropolitan Government judged that the HWPL violated the public interest by causing domestic and foreign controversy by promoting false information about winning international awards, and illegally occupying public facilities.
Behind the shutdown of the HWPL corporate office on February the 29th, there are 4 rounds of administative investigations conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. A hearing about the nullification of the authorization was held on the 10th of April; however, the HWPL did not attend and only submitted written opinions. In the meantime, the city government explains that a comprehensive investigation of the evidences, through the testimonies of those affected by Shincheonji and media reports, has been conducted.
Bae Hyun-sook, official of the Seoul International Cooperation said, "The administrative investigation confirmed violations of the authorization conditions, the realization of projects not in compliance with the purpose, and the violation of the public interest." "By nullifing the Authorization to Establish a Corporation, we want to prevent the abuse of the corporation system and victims of good faith from being deceived by disguised religious activities."
On the 26th of last month, the Seoul Metropolitan Government revoked the Authorization to Establish a Corporation of the "New Heaven and New Earth Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony Jesus Missionary Church Corporation," which was established by Sincheonji.
