How the 144K doctrine changed over the years

Changes in the "144 thousand" doctrine of Sincheonji

Pastor Hwang Ui-jong

2015.08.13

When the Sincheonji executives died, they hinted at the “possibility of death before the merging of Godhead and Manhood.”

This is a critical article about the doctrine of Shincheonji, written by Pastor Hwang Ui-jong, the head of the Busan Counseling Center of the Korean Christian Heresy Counseling Center (CEO Pastor Jin Yong-sik).

Pastor Hwang is a minister that, despite being threatened with murder and his church being entirely burnt down, is dedicated to the conversion of the Shincheonji's victims.

The arsonist that set fire to Pastor Hwang's church in May 2010 was a Shincheonji member that was later sentenced to prison for attempted murder, arson, theft, and obstruction of justice.

Through the vivid criticism of this minister, who works in the field of the Shincheonji countermeasures,we've examined the 144,000 doctrine. [Editor note]

The Shincheonji Church of Jesus the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Shincheonji, chairman Lee Man-hee) has a non-biblical, bizarre doctrine.

When144,000 saints will be gathered in Shincheonji, the souls of the martyrs who are in Heaven will enter the bodies of the Shincheonji members, turning them into immortal beings that will become king-like priests and to whom people from all over the world will come and learn the Word.

This is clearly a fraud making use of faith. It is Satan's scheme to turn the loyal devotion towards Jesus into loyalty towards the human Lee Man-hee, that on the day of his death could lead to such a despondency that may even result in suicide.

Now, however, regardless of the death of chairman Lee Man-hee, I think we need to give a warning because there has been a strategic alteration meant to bind the Sincheonji believers forever.

I will try to point out the doctrinal inconsistencies.

  1. Assuming that Shincheonji claims are correct, one of the following four options must fulfill.

1)The Shincheonji members become the martyrs.

2)The martyrs become the Shincheonji members.

3)The souls of the martyrs and the Sincheonji members become dual personalities who reside in one body.

4)The two spirits create a synergic effect and the human beings become gods. Which of these four is right? The answer is recorded in the preface of the Shintan, a booklet of Shicheonji.

2. The Bible says something completely different.

The Book of Revelation 20:4 on which Shincheonji's ground lies, tells a completely different story from Shincheonji's claim.

The joint translation, translated by Catholics and Protestants together, looks like this,

"I also saw many tall seats and people sitting on them. They were the ones who were given the authority to judge. I also saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for spreading the truth of Jesus and the word of God. They are those who do not bow to the beast or his idol and are not marked on the forehead or hand. They survived and served as kings with Christ for a thousand years."

The Easy Bible is translated like this,

"And I saw people sitting on several throne. They were powerful judges. In front of them stood the souls who testified to Jesus and died while preaching the word of God. These spirits were those who did not bow to the beasts and idols, nor did they receive the marks of the beast on their foreheads or hands. They will come back to life and reign with Christ for a thousand years."

The English version NIV is also translated like this,

"And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years."

Therefore, we can see that the souls of the martyrs and those who have not been marked and have not worshiped the beast's idols are the same, they are by no means the souls of the martyrs that enter the bodies of the Shincheonji members, as Sincheonji claims.

New Korean Revised Version also do not agree with the claim of Shincheonji.

Revelation 20:4 "And when I looked at the thrones, those sat on them were given the authority to judge, and I saw that the spirits of those who were slaughtered because of their testimony for Jesus and the word of God and those who did not worship the beast and his idol, and who did not receive his mark on their forehead and hands, come to life together with Christ as kings, for a thousand years."

This verb 'come to life' is linked to, 'the spirits and those who did not worship the idol and did not receive his mark."

In other words, it means "back to life," not "combined," and this refers to the double event of the resurrection of dead saints and the change of living saints that will occur at the seventh trumpet sound.

3. The number of martyrs is not at all in line with what Shincheonji claims.

I saw that in front of the UN headquarters, it was announced that 22 thousand Christians all over the World has suffered martyrdom in 2014.

In the Islamic State of Egypt, there are many cases in which people who pray in churches are slaughtered and put on the pulpit to create an atmosphere of fear (...)

In 2000, the historical account of the Christian martyrs exceeded 50 million people.

Therefore, the claim of Shincheonji that there are 144,000 martyrs makes no sense.

4.Will you become priests like kings when the time comes?

1Pe 2:9 "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."

It is not true that, when the 144000 will be gathered, they will become priests like kings.

Instead, when Jesus died on the cross, the curtain of the temple was torn open (Ma27:51), and the way into the Holy Place opened wide.

That became the opportunity for everyone to enter the Holy Place, so that each person was entitled to go directly to God.

Meaning, that was the time for becoming king-like priests.

Therefore, after the death of Jesus on the cross, everyone was given the right to be like a priest, that is, the right to reach God by himself.

Therefore, it is false that Shincheonji makes king-like priests.

5. Shincheonji has frequently changed the conditions for entering the 144,000. This is a clear sign that Shincheonji is a fraud.

# First, between 1980 and 1987, it was predicted that the completion of the144,000 and the spiritual change would have taken place in 1987, and all the followers believed that.

The ex members say that towards the end of 1987, there were only 600 members, but they believed that God would have fulfilled the 144000 within the remaining months.

However, not only the 144000 were not completed, but no change occurred, so that more than 600 followers left and about 40 people remained.

At that time, the year of the foundation was surreptitiously postponed for four years and changed to1984, year 1 of Shincheonji.

# The second condition that changed was that the registration on Shincheonji's register was claimed to be the registration on the Book of Life.

So when Mr. Shin**, the Bartholomew tribe leader, died in 2004, Shincheonji denounced him as a traitor, saying he died because he had not believed he would have entered eternal life, in order to defend the doctrine inconsistencies.

And in 2005, a special order was issued for all the long-term insurance holders among the tribe leaders and the instructors to make a report.

Yet, the executives were afraid they could die and took medical checkups making a big fuss.

# Thirdly, it was changed to "even a missionary can die." Also Mr. Jeong**, who used to work at the Shinchonji headquarters, died.

With Mr. Jeon** death, the never-die-doctrine was no longer convincing, so the then Shincheonji's minister of justice changed it saying that "a missionary can die before the unification with God takes place."

It was believed to be a paving stone for the death of Lee Man-hee, who had turned 75.

# Fourth, it was changed to 'must be sealed.'

When the number of followers surpassed 50,000 people in 2006, they changed the doctrine saying that being recorded into the Shincheonji church register is not enough, and that the one must be sealed with the Word.

# Fifth, as the number grew to 100,000 people in 2010, the doctrine of the unification with God changed once again.

Now, it is not enough to be sealed with the Word, "You need to be a Gospel Room (BB Lesson) teacher to enter the 144000 and become a king-like priest."

# However, for the sixth time the doctrine changed and it ended up changing to "There are a few real entities that can never be missing in the 144K, but we don't know who they are."

The reason for this was that Mr. Moon, who was known to be a very competent instructor of the Peter tribe, died of cancer, and Yoon Jae-myung, who was said to be one of the real entities as a superintendent of education, also died of cancer.

Yoon's death shocked the Shincheonji officials. They used to teach that the chairman, Yoon**, Yoon**, and Ji** were the real entities, but since Yoon died, they surrepticiously changed saying, "There are a few real entities, but we don't know who they are."

# When the number of the members surpassed 144,000 people in 2014, they had to find an excuse for nothing changing, and religious integration was an alternative.

It is God's will to unite all the religions around the World, and Lee Man-hee and Shincheonji will achieve it.

In the end, their goal has become the unification of all the religions of the World, instead of the 144,000 they had insisted on until then (...)

These alterations in the 144,000 doctrine of Shincheonji clearly reveals that Shincheonji is a fraud that lures Christians, disconnecting them from Jesus and driving them to idolatry.
